Mauritius - February 2009

Our visit to Mauritius lasted just one week of February 2009. Our hotel, Le Tropical, was on the coast a kilometre from the village of Trou d'Eau Douce on the eastern coast of the island. The water was warm, the people were friendly and wind blew from the SSE constantly keeping us cool. The wind rustling the leaves of the Coconut Palms outside the room made us think it was constantly raining at night so, come morning, it was a pleasant surprise to find the weather warm and dry.

We snorkeled in several places, marked on the map, taking photos which can be see under the 'fish' link below, and visited both Trou d'Eau Douce and Centre de Flacq. Most of the 'places' photos are of these two centres or the area around the hotel although there are pictures taken at the Ile des Deux Cocos.

We flew to Mauritius with Emirates via Dubai. The flight time was in the region of 12-13 hours with a three-hour wait in Dubai - all very tiring. We were able to try out the new Airbus 380 between Heathrow and Dubai, this plane was a lot nicer to be on than the Boeing 777 we had for the Dubai - Mauritius leg of the journey. Same number of seats across in both aircraft but the 777 was only two-thirds the width - draw your own conclusions. Some pictures of the interior of the Economy cabin in the A380 are included at the end of the 'places' pictures.

Also below is a link to a series of 360° panoramas which require a quicktime plug-in. They were taken in and around the hotel and give a different perspective on the area.
